This job advertisement will be posted widely over the next week -- forum users are getting the first notification! If you are interested, please let us know; if you have any friends or colleagues who may be interested, please pass this link onto them. Perl Web application development with small experienced team FastMail.FM (http://www.fastmail.fm), one of the world's leading e-mail services, is hiring an expert Perl programmer to become a Web Application Developer. In this very attractive senior position, you can work flexible hours, telecommute, and develop your skills as part of a small but very experienced programming team. You will be primarily responsible for creating "cool new stuff" for the FastMail.FM web interface. To join our team, you will need to be an expert in Perl, object-oriented programming, and Web development. Ideally, you will have substantial experience with mod_perl. As a committed programmer, you should be able to show us an impressive portfolio of your work, such as in open source projects, contributing to the Perl community, or developing new frameworks in a commercial context. Since you will be telecommuting, geographic location is not important. However, you will need good written English skills to communicate with the team over IRC and email. You will also need to be able to demonstrate a high degree of discipline and commitment to complete projects on time. Salary is negotiable -- tell us what you think you're worth! Send your application to jobs@FastMail.FM. Please send us your resume, examples of work that you have done, links to your involvement with programming communities, references (so that we can talk to people that you have worked with), and anything else that will make you stand out from the crowd. -- Marie Duncan marie5150@fastmail.fm From JamesTillman at fdle.state.fl.us Fri Aug 22 05:51:28 2003 From: JamesTillman at fdle.state.fl.us (Tillman, James) Date: Mon Aug 2 21:38:01 2004 Subject: [Tallahassee-pm] Perl opening Message-ID: <2265699E79C5D51197940002B31B4EDB06C00C42@exchange.fdle.gov> > -----Original Message----- > From: Marie Duncan [mailto:marie5150@fastmail.fm] > Sent: Thursday, August 21, 2003 1:28 PM > To: Perl Mongers > Subject: [Tallahassee-pm] Perl opening > > > http://www.emailaddresses.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14654 > > Would you like a JOB with FastMail? Marie: Thanks for sending this opportunity to the list. I believe that members should feel free to send what they feel are legitimate opportunities for employment or collaboration to the list. After all, oftentimes we join groups like this hoping to increase our personal networks to gain better employment. Obviously, we don't want this to turn into a high volume spam list, but if we filter these offers through our own common sense, I'm sure we'll keep the signal to noise ratio at an acceptable level. If there's any disagreeing opinions, please speak up. I wouldn't want to push anyone away from the group because of something like this. jpt From phillip.tyre at fcul.com Fri Aug 22 10:53:26 2003 From: phillip.tyre at fcul.com (Phillip Tyre) Date: Mon Aug 2 21:38:01 2004 Subject: [Tallahassee-pm] So Big Message-ID: <39B5739894E97B40A427C59317BF2CD3878E4D@exchange2k.fcul.com> I'm sure that most of you don't even have to stoop to the level of dealing with email problems, but unfortunately, I do. I'd always thought the bigger shops would use one for common troubleshooting problems for the front desk, or is it just that there are no customizable free ones out there? -----Original Message----- From: Phillip Tyre Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2003 12:49 PM To: tallahassee-pm@mail.pm.org Subject: [Tallahassee-pm] Expert system. We are looking to implement a procedural expert system here where I work. Is anyone currently using/ know about a good open source solution? Preferably using as much of the following as possible: Php Perl Web interface MySQL I don't want to have to start from scratch with CLIPS! Something generic that we can interactively put the knowledge and rules into, and fine the cases where not enough information is supplied. Message-ID: <2265699E79C5D51197940002B31B4EDB06C00C5A@exchange.fdle.gov> I very recently did a market scan for open source expert systems and came up with a couple options, one of which was CLIPS. There was a Java-based solution called JESS that was Java-based and looked real cool until I saw the licensing issues with it (non-free for commercial use). I don't really know if JESS is open source, but licensable, or if it's a binary only distro. You have to check. They do have a free download of it for academic use. You could "test drive" it I suppose. Even with JESS it looks like you'd be building your own knowledge base. FDLE is woefully behind on troubleshooting issues. They use SupportMagic, and by "use" I mean it in the most minimal sense of the word. They've really done very little to customize it beyond the out of the box install. I wouldn't know if it supports expert systems functionality, but if it does, they're not using it! jpt -----Original Message----- From: Phillip Tyre [mailto:phillip.tyre@fcul.com] Sent: Thursday, August 28, 2003 11:22 AM To: tallahassee-pm@mail.pm.org Subject: RE: [Tallahassee-pm] Expert system.
