From: James E Keenan <jkeen at verizon.net>
To: Perlmongers NY <ny at lists.pm.org>

As is customary, Perl Seminar NY will meet on the third Tuesday of the
month -- but remember that this month ny.pm will have a special talk by
Dan Sugalski on Parrot at Morgan Stanley.

The perlsemny details:

Tuesday, January 20, 2004, 6:15 pm
NYPC Users Group
481 8 Ave (Ramada New Yorker hotel)
Suite 1560
between West 34 & 35 Sts, Manhattan

Two presentations:

1.  Sal Denaro:  "Net::LDAP"

What is Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), what should you
use it for and what should't you use it for. And how it differs from
Relational Database Management (RDBM) systems.

How to use NET::LDAP to abstract login and user management from your
applications. Issues with command line and cgi apps. Issues in migrating
to SSO environments. Some LDAP tricks and traps. How to make use of MS
ADS without wanting to kill.

2. Jim Keenan: "Cookin' with Tom & Nat"

David Adler kept pestering the New York Perlmongers to write reviews of
the books O'Reilly & Associates was sending him. Tonight, Jim gives a
brief tour of the second edition of "The Perl Cookbook" by Tom
Christiansen and Nat Torkington. Should you buy the second edition if
you already own the first? Come and find out!
