-- Happy Birthday Message --

	> Perl's 20th Birthday
	>
	> On December 18th, 1987, Larry Wall unleashed Perl 1.000 on the
	> world (see the Perl Timeline [3]).
	>
	> We are going to celebrate Perl's birthday with pre-meeting dinner
	> and drinks at the Pike Place Brew Pub [4], and with birthday cake at
	> the meeting.

As you know, there are always trends to make room for within an increasingly
crowded toolbox (and ever expanding harddrive), but for the last 20 years
Perl has proved itself to be well worn and immensely valuable to anyone
running everything from a scalable datacenter operation, bioinformatics lab,
web connected vending machine, and untold millions of other applications.

For the better part of 20 years, beyond inspiring a lot of brilliant
creativity and a long list of success stories, Perl has remained one of the
great, behind-the-scenes work horses within product development, test, web
app, and network management lifecycles.
