SPUG: How to deal with /su[b]/ on this mail list

Would that be /\bsu[b]\b/ or /su[b]/? (yeah, I know, it was on purpose)

Since this a Perl Monger's mailing list, I wonder if the powers that be
would be willing to make an exception in the case of /\bsu[b]\b/. It comes
in handy when discussing Perl.
