Did you get any responses for this question as this has happened to me a
number of times and I've just given up and upgraded.

Poking around on http://groups.google.com I couldn't find an answer
either, but it seems like this behavior happens when you do a 'force
install' of a module.  Maybe that module requires 5.6.x?

You could always just use CPAN to download the module for you and then cd
into the ~/.cpan/build/ directory and compile it up yourself.
