I've recently started using the qq(...), and similar braces around regular
expressions because I find it somewhat easier to match the beginning and
end of expressions using vi's ``%'' operator (I've never been able to come
to grips with emacs and don't use the arrow keys in vi :-).  It also tends
to fewer backwhacks in the expressions.
