More info (RSVPs not required, but probably helpful): https://www.meetup.com/San-Francisco-Perl/events/xmldtpyxnbkb/ By the way, David (who has been playing around with prime number generation code) might want to take a look at the Dana Jacobson talk, "Simple Number Theory in Perl 6": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV7mTDfQjN8 Dana Jacobson's "ntheory" is also probably worth a look, it's a perl5 package of various number theory utitlities: https://metacpan.org/pod/ntheory From dpchrist at holgerdanske.com Fri Oct 5 19:12:03 2018 From: dpchrist at holgerdanske.com (David Christensen) Date: Fri, 5 Oct 2018 19:12:03 -0700 Subject: [sf-perl] Informal Perl6 Study Group: Sunday, October 7th In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <03315128-6cf3-96a9-93ea-da9f69893bd6@holgerdanske.com> On 10/5/18 10:54 AM, Joseph Brenner wrote: > Just a reminder, we are on for the usual "Perl 6 Informal Study > Session" in the Blue Oak Cafe in the Oakland Museum, on Sunday > October 7th, from 1pm to 3pm (more or less... really we > tend to stay there until they throw us out at 5 or 6 pm). > > More info (RSVPs not required, but probably helpful): > > https://www.meetup.com/San-Francisco-Perl/events/xmldtpyxnbkb/ > > By the way, David (who has been playing around with prime number > generation code) might want to take a look at the Dana Jacobson > talk, "Simple Number Theory in Perl 6": > > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV7mTDfQjN8 > > Dana Jacobson's "ntheory" is also probably worth a look, it's a > perl5 package of various number theory utitlities: > > https://metacpan.org/pod/ntheory Thanks for the links. :-) See you Sunday. Feel free to stop by any time, really... I've been going through the brian d foy book, myself, which really is very well organized. We will no doubt be flipping through the new "Learning Perl 6" book, and things like that. Myself, I've been working on some code to do a neater list of available methods than the built-in "^methods" does. I find that while the "augment" feature is evil (beware of creeping rubyism) and not tremendously well supported, you can still do some fun things with it if you work at it... We've been flipping through brian d foy's "Learning Perl 6" lately, and myself I've been playing around with writing perl 6 tests, pod, and the cpan format for perl6 code. I had some questions about variable scoping and data interchange, so we might be talking about that. This is probably the last session for this year-- next year I'm thinking about trying a different format, perhaps alternating between perl6 and perl5.
