From mcduffee at gmail.com Wed Dec 2 11:39:13 2015 From: mcduffee at gmail.com (David McDuffee) Date: Wed, 2 Dec 2015 11:39:13 -0800 Subject: [San-Diego-pm] Open Call for PerlMonger Sponsors at SCaLE 14x Message-ID: Hello PerlMongers, The next Southern California Linux Expo, SCaLE 14x , is scheduled for January 21-24, 2016 at the Pasadena Convention Center. As in past years, the Perl community will be represented in a PerlMonger booth at the event by local volunteers who give of their time and enthusiasm. To show appreciation, we've given each volunteer a "Perl @ SCaLE" T-shirt. The shirts have historically cost about $200 to custom print. Last year, for the first time, we sought to have the cost of that printing sponsored by local companies and the response was fantastic. We were not only able to pay for the shirts, but purchased and distributed more than a dozen Perl books to those who expressed interest. This year, the long-awaited release of Perl 6 will likely make the PerlMonger booth the focal point of the entire convention! Well, maybe not, but there should be plenty of traffic either way. We're hoping that Perl shops can help spread the word once again this year, that this language is still an evolving force in the industry. In exchange for your company's $100 contribution, we will add your corporate logo to the back of our t-shirt, identifying you as a supporter of Perl and the local PerlMongers. In addition, if you have Perl positions you are seeking to fill, we can distribute flyers at the booth describing your company and the positions available. Like last year, if there are surplus funds, they'll be used to purchase Perl books to distribute at the event. If your company would be interested in being one of our sponsors this year, or you have any questions you'd like to ask, please contact me at mcduffee at gmail.com. This open call for sponsors will close Friday, December 11, at 11:59 PM. Thank you! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... SCaLE 14x will be in Pasadena from January 21 through January 24, 2016. In exchange for your $100 sponsorship, which will help pay for the cost of printing the Perl @ SCaLE t-shirts our volunteers wear, your company logo will be printed on the back of the shirts, identifying your company as a supporter of the Perl community in Southern California. In addition, we will distribute literature at the booth which advertises any open positions you're trying to fill. Our booth attracts Perl users (and the Perl curious) from around the world, so this is a great opportunity to get your company message out at the same time you support Perl. If you'd like to be a sponsor, or have additional questions, please contact me at mcdufee at gmail.com. Thank you! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... There is still room on our t-shirts for the logo of one more PerlMonger sponsor, but you'll need to act quickly if you want to claim it for yourself. Remember, in addition to appearing on the back of every shirt distributed to our volunteers, you'll also be able to show ;your support for the Perl community by advertising your open Perl positions on flyers distributed from our booth at the show. Please take a moment now to show the world that your copmpany is one of the leading supporters of the Perl community in 2016! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We'll be meeting at our normal place and time, the Ansir Innovation Center, at about 7 PM. The discussion topics for this meeting will include the upcoming release of Perl 6, the holidays, and plans for the new year (including for our group). Also, please remember this note from the fine folks at the Ansir Innovation Center: Please park on either Convoy Street, Engineer Road, or Brinell Street as we have a small parking lot that we share with other businesses. Avoid parking in other shopping centers as you may get towed. Look for the green door marked Suite 210. We'll look forward to seeing you all there! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If you've attended a previous SCALE you already know what a worthwhile event it will be. If you haven't, listen to this podcast from long-time Perl Monger Randal Schwartz for an earlier SCaLE: http://twit.tv/show/floss-weekly/279 As in the past, the So Cal Perl Mongers (Los Angeles, Orange County, Thousand Oaks, and San Diego) will be hosting a booth at the expo. If you can spare some time during the conference (4-5 hours) to represent Perl Mongers at the booth, please send a note to me ( mcduffee at gmail.com) to let me know. You don't have to be a Perl expert to volunteer, just be willing to talk about Perl with conference attendees, plus help set up or tear down the booth if your shift requires it. The Linux Expo outgrew its former host, which prompted the move to a larger venue in Pasadena, so this year promises to be bigger and better than ever. In addition, Perl 6 looks like it's on schedule for the long-awaited Christmas release, so this year should be a big one for interest in Perl as well. What do you get for volunteering? * A full conference pass at no cost, with a much-coveted "Exhibitor" badge! * An even more coveted Perl @ SCaLE t-shirt! (thanks to our sponsors!) * A two-week free trial for online Perl training from one of this year's sponsors, Geekuni * The chance to meet and chat with fellow Perl enthusiasts! Check out some of the talks you'll be eligible to attend at http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/14x/presentations , but remember that much of the value of SCaLE comes from the "conference in the halls" -- the chance to get to know other members of the community in a more relaxed informal setting than a typical meetup permits. I know this time of year is hectic, but I'd like to hear from volunteers by 11:59 PM Monday, December 28. If you have a preference for when you'd like to work the booth (Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, or Sunday morning), let me know, and also include your shirt size. I hope to see you this year at SCaLE! Thanks! David McDuffee P.S. Thanks again to Juan Natera for organizing the Perl booth at past SCaLE conventions, and for his continuing advice and support this year! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I understand that this is a hectic time of year, with people either on vacation and focused on family, or working to beat a year-end deadline so they can relax over the holidays. I also understand that people may be waiting until the schedule of speakers for the upcoming SCaLE is a bit more filled in. There's no need! We can adjust the booth schedule until the day of the event, so even if you don't know which day and time will be best for you, you can still volunteer today. You don't have to be a Perl expert, just someone who appreciates what Perl can help people accomplish, and who is willing to share that appreciation with others. What will you get in exchange for your time? - A free pass to SCaLE 14x - A PerlMongers t-shirt in your size - Two weeks of free online Perl training from Geekuni If you want to help represent the Perl community to the larger community of Linux users, please send an email to mcduffee at gmail.com today. We'll work out the details later. Thank you! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
