Though somewhat a late notice (sorry!), I nevertheless would like to invite everyone to the North Capital of Russia to the 5th annual Perl workshop "Saint Perl 2013". It would be one day of talks on Saturday, December 21st. St. Petersburg is exceptionally great this time of the year (sure, hardly depending on your "greatness"-function :). And of course we all will raise a glass of your favourite beverage after the event, as it would occur just two days after Perl's birthday (December 18th). The attendance is free of charge and we have got a beautiful venue in middle of the city in the office of JetBrains (http://www.jetbrains.org). We are still looking for speakers so it would be twice awesome if you'll bring some nice talk in you luggage with you :) See you in St. Pete's! -- sromanov . That is the first anniversary of the end of the world. In any case, that is the day I set aside to alphabetize the contents of my glove compartment. I simply won't be available to give my talk on that day. -- Joel Fentin tel: 760-749-8863 Biz Website: http://fentin.com Personal Website: http://fentin.com/me From rkleeman at energoncube.net Tue Dec 17 17:33:58 2013 From: rkleeman at energoncube.net (Bob Kleemann) Date: Tue, 17 Dec 2013 17:33:58 -0800 Subject: [San-Diego-pm] Meeting on Thursday! Message-ID: Hello Perl Mongers, Just a quick reminder, the last meeting of the year is on Thursday. We're meeting again at the Ansir Innovation Center starting at about 7 PM. Bring your questions, ideas, and thoughts, and we'll discuss them. We don't have a presentation currently planned, but who knows what kind of holiday surprises may be in store. Also, please remember this note from the fine folks at the Ansir Innovation Center: Please park on either Convoy Street, Engineer Road, or Brinell Street as we have a small parking lot that we share with other businesses. Avoid parking in other shopping centers as you may get towed. Look for the green door marked Suite 210. I look forward to seeing you all there/then! -- Bob From rkleeman at energoncube.net Tue Dec 17 18:09:53 2013 From: rkleeman at energoncube.net (Bob Kleemann) Date: Tue, 17 Dec 2013 18:09:53 -0800 Subject: [San-Diego-pm] Fwd: Announcement - Dallas/Ft Worth Perl Mongers Hackathon Invitational Message-ID: This sounds interesting. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Tommy Butler Date: Tue, Dec 17, 2013 at 6:06 PM Subject: Announcement - Dallas/Ft Worth Perl Mongers Hackathon Invitational I just ran this announcement on Google+ and PerlMonks.org. If you have a blog or facebook account you could share the news there as well. We'd appreciate it. All groups are invited: ANNOUNCEMENT You could call it the DFW.pm's "Winter of Code". You could call it a contest. You could call it fun. You could call it Perl... ...And you'd be right! DFW.pm (now joined by New York's NY.pm) is holding in a competition that runs from now until January 8th when the code of each competitor will be pitted against the others in a live Google hangout world-wide Perl Mongers meeting. The aim of the competition is to "deduplicate" 100 gigabytes of random file data, using Perl, as fast as possible. If your code can do it the fastest, without killing the contest server, you win. The winner gets to choose the topic of the next hackathon competition (and/or host it), and gets the recognition of having won a world-wide competition in Perl. The competition is open to all, provided a few criteria are met which establish legitimacy of participation. If you want to compete, YOU'RE INVITED! Full details can be read on the dfw.pm.org website. The contest is discussed on The DFW.pm mailing list The hackathon was organized by Tommy Butler and John Fields of Dallas, TX, and is being hosted by the Dallas Makerspace. Our resources are finite, so we may have to stop accepting entries if server load gets too high. Get your notice of intention to participate to the mailing list asap. --Tommy Butler
