From cabney at ucsd.edu Thu Jan 2 13:21:28 2003 From: cabney at ucsd.edu (C. Abney) Date: Thu Aug 5 00:20:43 2004 Subject: Math::NumberCruncher::Exp Message-ID: <1041535288.11491.1.camel@vespa> ~sdpm~ I resorted to converting all my numbers to their respective natural logarithms in my efforts to get around (what I believe are) the rounding issues with Math::BigFloat, and completing my arithmetic manipulations with those. And to my surprise I found Math::NumberCruncher::Exp appears to assume a number greater than zero when I tried to do the back conversion. It returns a number, I didn't check the value of the result but it appears to've changed the sign: I get a number far greater than one. I finally changed the sign on the number and ->bpow(-1)-ed after Exp()-ing it to get around that one. I'm using an empirical method to determine the number of digits I should expect to get from a (negative) power of e, is there a formula I can use for that? I'm trying to get at least 5 or 6 digits in the mantissa. This is not one of our typical monthly meetings, but instead just a general social gathering. Tuesday evening January 7th, 7PM-whenever, at the Elephant Bar on Rancho Bernardo Rd: http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?Pyt=Typ&tuid=9455096&ck=841952179&tab=B2C&tcat=8228757&city=San+Diego&state=CA&zip=92127&country=us&msa=7320&slt=33.028500&sln=-117.117000&cs=5&stat=:pos:0:regular:regT:1:fbT:0 For those that may be making their way up from the south, I-15 can be a pain in the evening, but by 7PM traffic shouldn't be to bad and we aren't doing anything time critical. So show up whenever you can and we can gather, talk, and generally get to know each other. Also, if you have friends, coworkers, acquaintances, or know anyone that uses Perl but isn't on our mailing list, tell them to come along and get to know others in the local Perl community. When you get there, look for us probably in the Bar area. I'll try to wear one of my Perl TShirts or perhaps something else along those lines. If you can't find us that way, as one of the hosteses and I'm sure they'll be albe to point you towards our group. ~sdpm~ The posting address is: san-diego-pm-list@hfb.pm.org List requests should be sent to: majordomo@hfb.pm.org If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list, you can send mail to with the following command in the body of your email message: unsubscribe san-diego-pm-list If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the list, (if you have trouble unsubscribing, or have questions about the list itself) send email to . We are still having trouble finding a host for the website. The work I have done is at http://fentin.com/SDPM/. For the moment the password is japh. One possibility is to have the domain point to one of our volunteer hosts. But nothing will be there but a redirect to the above address. Q87 charges $8/month to host. Ideas please. 2. Our entity as a group is in danger. We've lost our meeting place and our attendance is low. It will be at the Starbucks off Balboa by the 163. 4240 Kearny Mesa Rd #113, San Diego, CA 92111, 858-278-9365. http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?Pyt=Typ&tuid=9437923&ck=372530502&tab=B2C&tcat=8228500&city=San+Diego&state=CA&zip=92116&country=us&msa=7320&slt=32.763600&sln=-117.121400&cs=5&stat=:pos:17:regular:regT:20:fbT:0 It should be fairly easy to get to, take the 163 to Balboa, head west. The first light after the freeway (Mercury I think) is where you should turn left. (Note: if you get off the 163 heading south, you'll land on Mercury. Turn left and continue the remaining directions.) You should see a In-N-Out on your left, and a CompUSA on your right. Turn into the CompUSA parking lot (this is also the San Diego Technical Books parking lot), and follow the parking lot south. You'll see the Starbucks not to far down on your right side. Show up at 7PM and we'll have a casual conversation about where to hold the next meeting, Perl topics that anyone is interested in learning more about, maybe a conversation about the SuperBowl, or anything else that comes up. I hope most people can make it.
