Works on my v5.6.1 build 630. Does the following work on your 629?

use File::Basename;
$A = File::Basename::basename('temp.pl'); 
print $A;

If so, basename() isn't properly exported. Does your Basename.pm contain:

@EXPORT = qw(fileparse fileparse_set_fstype basename dirname);

I don't see any reference to this in the change history from 628->629->630.

Isn't upgrading so much fun??
