Our scheduled speaker is ill, and there's not really time to assemble a
quality presentation by tomorrow, so we're cancelling our April meeting.
 There is no meeting Tuesday April 8th.

May 8-10 is Open West.  See you all there.  We have three days worth of
Perl planned, and Mark Jason Dominus will be a guest speaker as well.

The OpenWest 2014 Conference is quickly approaching on May 8th-10th.

One of the things that makes our conference great is the community
behind it. But a conference like this doesn't happen on its' own. We
need volunteers!

Want to attend for free?

We are looking for volunteers to help out. There are a few rolls to fill
such as:

-A/V
-Room Monitors
-Registration
-Setup/Take down.

If you are interested please go to http://www.openwest.org/volunteer/ and
signup.

Video volunteers should know how to operate a typical HD camcorder (zoom,
focus, etc.) for good results. If you can provide your own hardware we
only require that the camcorder shoot in 1080p HD resolution, have an
optical zoom lens, and record
on SD card media (UTOS will provide the SD cards for recording.) A good
tripod for shooting video is also required.

A couple people have asked me about the aspect ratio of the projectors at
Open West.  They are full 1080p, so 16:9 should be fine.  All of them have
HDMI and VGA.  If you need something different from that, bring an adapter.

Slides are strongly encouraged for most presentations.  Also, if you upload
them to a slide sharing service such as slideshare, let me know the link
and I'll try to pull together a page on our SLPM site (after the fact) that
links to talk slides and videos.

If you haven't registered for OpenWest, be sure to do so soon.  The ticket
sales are capped at 1000 this year (last year was 700).  But I have it on
good authority that even though capacity has been increased this year,
we're already at 718 registrants, and if history is any indicator, last
minute registration will easily consume the remainder.

The community discount code for Salt Lake Perl Mongers is PERL.

If you are a speaker, you do still have to register.   If you haven't done
so, email me directly for a speaker code.

Volunteers are still being sought.  There's a volunteer form on the Open
West website.
