Tonight please be sure to welcome people you haven't seen at a Perl
Mongers meeting before.  One time someone in LA confided to me that
the reason she never went to a second Los Angeles Perl Mongers meeting
was that nobody spoke to her at her first meeting.

To make it easier to share our contact information with others, I
added the following page on our website (you may need to refresh your
brower's cache):

It's just a banner page with a QR code linking to our website's main
page.  Load it up in your smartphone and share it with others at
tonight's event!

If there's enough time to set it up I hope to put it on the overhead
projector before tonight's meeting so newcomers can scan it if they
like.  This event is for us... but it's also for us to bring new
people to Perl, and to the group. :)  We have 84 registrants so far.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 10th at 7:00pm.

Ryan Dietrich has volunteered to give a presentation on Socket
Programming with Perl.  That will be our primary presentation.  But
we're looking for a 15-25 minute "back to the basics" type of
presentation.  If you're able and willing, please let me know so that
I can add you to the agenda.

Even if your presentation isn't a "back to the basics" type of
presentation, we would still love to hear from you, so don't be shy!

*** I will be out of town the 2nd week of September ***

I won't be able to attend our September meeting, as it coincides with
my annual trip to Tuolumne Meadows (the only part of Yosemite that
seems to not be burning).  Unless smoke conditions force a
cancellation I'll need someone to coordinate the meeting:


    * Arrange for us to be let in.
    * Arrange for WiFi
    * Conduct the meeting.
    * ... That's about it...

If anyone is willing to run the September meeting please let me know.

Randal Schwartz will be addressing the Unix Users Association of
Southern California, Los Angeles chapter on September 5th at 7:00pm.

Jordan Schwartz (no relation to Randal) is the organizer, and he
typically streams video at UUASC events.  This meeting is a joint
meeting with Los Angeles Perl Mongers.  I haven't been able to confirm
that this one will be streamed yet, but Randal says it will be
available on Vimeo eventually.

Saw this presentation at OSCON. Some people might think it's just Randall
being self-centered (which he kind of is), but there is some terribly
fascinating history in his stories.
