The idea would be to help with any project using SVG and to help familiarize group members with this image format. I'm sending this around so to ask various group leaders to find out if anyone would be interested in one of these events, either as a standalone event for their group or as an addition to other events that they plan to run. I have, personally, been using SVG as an output graphics format from Perl for many years. I suspect that others may have an interest as well. G. Wade Houston.pm -- I like you. So, here's a quick overview. SVG is an XML-based 2D vector graphics format. It supports scripting (through ecmascript) and declarative animation (through SMIL). It also supports somewhat advanced filtering features which can produce some really spectacular effects. It is currently supported natively in Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and the Webkit-based browsers. There are plugins for IE. The currently plugins have not been updated for a while, but new ones are on the horizon. SVG is currently used quite a bit in the GIS and cartography fields. It is also getting strong support in the mobile phone area. KDE also uses SVG extensively in it's newer versions. For more information, you can check http://planetsvg.com/. It is a new site maintained by the SVG Interest Group. There's an SVG developers group on Yahoo, which serves as a gathering place for people developing with SVG. (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/svg-developers/) The SVG Wiki is located at http://wiki.svg.org/Main_Page. There's an Apache project, Batik. It is a java library for working with SVG. There are also a few libraries on CPAN. I hope that gives a bit more background and generates a bit more interest. G. Wade On Sat, 7 Feb 2009 17:30:53 -0600 "G. В Moscow.pm промолчали, продублирую сюда. Есть два вопроса по XMLRPC::Lite. Возможно, кто-то подскажет. -- 1. Возможно ли использовать gzip на XMLRPC::Transport::HTTP::Daemon? Сервер: #!/usr/bin/perl -I /usr/home/null/.Eclipse/RT/lib # vim: ts=8:sw=4 use strict; use warnings; use XMLRPC::Lite +trace => 'all'; use XMLRPC::Transport::HTTP; use Router; use Data::Dumper; my $daemon = XMLRPC::Transport::HTTP::Daemon -> new (LocalPort => 9850, ReuseAddr => 1) -> options({compress_threshold => 1000}) -> dispatch_to('Router'); $daemon->handle; (там один метод из пакета Router возвращает много всяких данных, хотелось бы сжимать) Клиент: #!/usr/bin/perl -w use strict; use XMLRPC::Lite +trace => 'all'; use Data::Dumper; my $client = XMLRPC::Lite ->proxy('http://localhost:9850/', options => {compress_threshold => 1}) ->on_fault(sub { die "Transport error: " . $_[1]->faultstring }); print Dumper($client->call('Router. The IG doesn't have any way to sponsor or run a hackathon. We do have some contact with the SVG Open organizers and may be able to get space there for a side event. The IG does have contacts with various groups that are working in SVG and could help coordinate some "expertise". This could include helping to get interested groups in touch with projects that need the help (like the SVG Graph project mentioned by Jozef Kutej). We should also be able to help with helping groups who are interested in doing some SVG work become proficient with the technology. Honestly, I'm willing to pass any suggestions from you or your members on to the group in hopes we can find some way to help. As I am a fan of both Perl and SVG (and have worked with both for quite a few years) I'd love to find a way for the two communities to help each other. G.
