Read his paper on it here. Decide on what we want to hear about at the next meeting, and who wants to speak. Attendees: Brian Mathis Bob Walton Justin Sherrill Bob Rhode Ben Taylor Meeting Summary There was a general discussion, covering such topics as Road Runner, Windows, UNIX, and miscellaneous Perl coding practices. Bob Rhode presented his talk about "Extracting C Source code from CSV/Excel file". His program incorporated an amazing number of Perl features, including some little used functions and techniques. The talk was very informative and started some good discussions. Presentation for the next meeting was decided: Bob Walton will speak about a general purpose text pre-processor that he wrote. -- Brian Mathis Direct Edge From sporter at rit.net Fri Jul 16 17:26:53 1999 From: sporter at rit.net (Shawn Porter) Date: Thu Aug 5 00:19:49 2004 Subject: [rochester-pm-list] Gtk+ and Perl Message-ID: Have any of you messed with Gtk+ and Perl? I've just started messing with it and it is very cool. Here is what I'm trying to do: First, I wrote a program yesterday that basically runs tcpdump to listen for data from a certain IP address. Whenever it recieves some data on that port it will parse it and display some output to the terminal. Yesterday I wanted to put a GUI on this little app so I decided to try Gtk+ and Perl together. I've figured out how to create a window with Gtk+ and even to put the text I want into it. Unfortunately, I've done very little GUI programming so I'm not sure how to handle everything. So far my program will create a window, run tcpdump, and then update the window based on tcpdump's output. Unfortunately, it will only do this once. I want it to run tcpdump continuously and whenever it gives output to update the window. Whenever I get it to run continuously, it won't ever update the window. Arggh... If you have any idea what I'm talking about, please check out my code and give me some suggestions. I'm attaching two files. ctimon.pl is the working terminal-based version. gtkctimon.pl is my try at doing this with Gtk+ and Perl. -- Shawn Porter http://www.rit.net/sporter sporter@rit.net -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I'm trying to learn Gtk+ with Perl. All the good Gtk+ tutorials are for C users. I don't care about Gtk+ and C... I want Perl! So, anyways.... I decieded to port some of the Gtk+/C examples over to Gtk+/Perl. I did one of them and it was pretty cool. Wow... easy Gui programming with Perl... can life get any better?! Anyways... I started up a little Gtk+/Perl website. It is pretty empty right now but I'll work on adding some more good stuff. -> http://www.rit.net/sporter/gtkplusperl/ Enjoy. -- Shawn Porter http://www.rit.net/sporter sporter@rit.net From bmathis at directedge.com Tue Jul 20 11:07:11 1999 From: bmathis at directedge.com (Brian Mathis) Date: Thu Aug 5 00:19:49 2004 Subject: [rochester-pm-list] Gtk+ progress In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Cool. Another possibility is to put up a spot on the web page. Either way, it is ALWAYS good to hear what current postings are... If nothing else, it tells you what skill sets / job descriptions / lingo / salary is current.
