They each have their place.  There's no one answer.

If you must have sequenced packets at the network level, use TCP.

If you have a higher-level protocol that can afford dropped packets (or
even demand that packets not be retransmitted), use UDP.

If you're talking to an existing server, you must use what they use. :)
