I'd like to have a feature on Asterisk, the open-source PBX platform. Has anyone got a working system running here - either at work or home? I'd also like to hear about applications of open-source in Qatar. The more esoteric, the better. It's the sort of thing that will go down well with employers - they get free publicity and a pat on the back for being so forward-thinking about technology. --Nigel From kutch at km33.com Thu Sep 11 00:52:07 2008 From: kutch at km33.com (Kutch Villasor) Date: Thu, 11 Sep 2008 10:52:07 +0300 Subject: [Qatar-pm] [List] Peninsula features In-Reply-To: References: <2379a820809110019y3f078c81ye5182e2baf205683@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <48C8CE27.6030505@km33.com> Hi Guy's you think it's a good idea to publish some of our work with Qatar papers, especially VoIP thing? I remember last time Qatar's news about the VoIP issue and put some poor Bangladeshi behind bars :( and they exaggerate that 'ALL VOIP must not be used in Qatar' I would be more happy if they publish why 30% of Q-Tel's MPLS line was down last September 4, 5, and 6 when I do the complain they just say 'Hey there is a problem with your Firewall, and we cannot ping it' ehe? Yeah I can't complain much as we get un-manage line so I have to troubleshoot everything and I just found out it was their fault (THEIR FAULT!!!!) and I give up, not knowing internet was back on 6th of Sept morning without doing anything from my side, so it confirms that it's their faul!!!! (poor customer service) Have a nice weekend..... Kutch Cristian N. Bradiceanu wrote: > Hello Nigel, > Hello List, > > Great to hear about the Peninsula's technology supplement. I need to wait until I hear back from them, but I don't think they're overly bothered about businesses managing their own PBXs or using Skype. However, they don't like unregistered Internet cafes, which have been targeted recently. >From what I hear, there have been some changes within Qtel, and they have become slightly more sane recently, but others may disagree. --nigel From ngourlay at gmail.com Thu Sep 11 04:13:43 2008 From: ngourlay at gmail.com (Nigel Gourlay) Date: Thu, 11 Sep 2008 14:13:43 +0300 Subject: [Qatar-pm] [List] Peninsula features In-Reply-To: References: <2379a820809110019y3f078c81ye5182e2baf205683@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <2379a820809110413q78857df1jaea316c1f902d35a@mail.gmail.com> > Great to hear about the Peninsula's technology supplement. I could do with a quick tutorial on how to set up a small-office PBX. The O'Reilly book seems well written, but seeing the kit working and talking to someone who's set up a few systems is often an better way to get a good overview. By the way, how many people here are using SpamAssassin and/or ClamAV? --nigel From cristian at bradiceanu.net Thu Sep 11 00:30:37 2008 From: cristian at bradiceanu.net (Cristian N. I've got a system-to-sms setup working (using both modem and SMPP gateway) and I can write a howto for that. The open-source tool used for that is kannel. It can be an easy alternative for any high cost mobile alert systems etc. We'd used it with Nagios in Red Hat for system alerts to be messaged to our mobile phones. For the one with kannel, the write-up is little different, I'll try writing that and posting it here. It has two modes of operation- one using the GSM modem and the other using the SMPP gateway from QTel . > --nigel > -- Thanks and Regards Nabeel Moidu Doha, Qatar -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
