According to today's paper, QSTP is starting monthly tech talks. From the article, it seems that they're being run by Ben Figgis (email below). Although they'll probably be oriented towards business, rather than technology, there might be opportunities to meet other coders and introduce open-source to local businessmen. I've cc'd Ben on this email. Ben could you explain in a bit more details your plans? --Nigel Gourlay References: http://www.qstp.org.qa/ - Qatar Science and Technology Park bfiggis at qstp.org.qa - Ben Figgis Tel. 492 7130 From ngourlay at gmail.com Wed Feb 14 03:15:35 2007 From: ngourlay at gmail.com (Nigel Gourlay) Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2007 14:15:35 +0300 Subject: [Qatar-pm] more details on QSTP tech-talks Message-ID: <2379a820702140315g297ae8eei294d971d3d163251@mail.gmail.com> from Ben Figgis: Software developers would be more than welcome to attend, but if they could register their names with me that would be much appreciated. The plan is for these to be once a month, with a guest speaker on technology-business "hot topics". Networking, finger food, the usual. We'll try to keep it at the Dip Club. Look forward to meeting on the night - of we haven't already! QCERT is finally showing some signs of life, and are going to hold meetings every two months (last Tuesday of every alternate month). The first presentation is being given by the former head of UK's Ministry of Defence CERT, Mr. Ian Dowdeswell, who's now involved in QCERT. The topic is "Cybersecurity - How much risk are you prepared to take?". I guess this is going to talk about the balance between security and utility, and maybe 'who trusts trust'. There's more details here: http://www.qcert.org/qisf/ Don't forget to register! --Nigel
