I'm writing to all of them to make them aware of our community, and I'm also encouraging them to converge on the open source meetup. I looked into creating a Perl Meetup, but meetup.com charges a fee. I think for face to face meetings we should avoid fragmentation. I don't care what they call themselves. :) As far as organizing it, though... I have to leave that to someone else. I might have time to attend meetings, but I don't have time to organize them. I'm already running in too many different directions as it is. Since we started using Meetup, the attendance and energy level have really improved. Meetup does carry a small subscription fee, but it is usually pretty easy to recoup the cost by adding a $1 to the pizza & beer tab for each person. As long as everyone knows they are helping to fund the group, no one ever complains. Or you may be able to find a corporate sponsor. Back when I hosted the meetings at my office, I struck a simple deal with my manager. I told him I was going to expense $50 every month, just to fund Perl Monger stuff. To him, it was a small price to pay for making contact with the best Perl hackers in the area. San Francisco Perl Mongers, Jeffrey. If the community gets more active I'd recommend using Meetup. But for now I want to encourage support of the Open Source group. All, the next Meetup is scheduled for April 29th, but they don't have a speaker. Does anyone want to make a presentation? It would be cool if it was Perl-related. -- Tim From timc+perl at divide.net Mon Apr 19 21:27:45 2010 From: timc+perl at divide.net (Tim Chambers) Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2010 22:27:45 -0600 Subject: [Pikes-peak-pm] [Fwd: O'Reilly UG News: Developing Android Applications with Java Part 2] Message-ID: <4BCD2D41.7050208@divide.net> -------- Original Message -------- Subject: O'Reilly UG News: Developing Android Applications with Java Part 2 Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2010 13:06:53 -0700 From: Marsee Henon If you would like to view this information in your browser, click here .
