Just in case you're looking for something on a Monday night, PLUG [1] is holding its bi-monthly "*PLUG in the Pub*" on Monday evening at the Moon & Six Pence on Murray St in the city. It's purely social drink-and-chat, no prepared talks (/usually/). There's no membership requirements -- just rock up and hang out. A bunch of people will be there from around 6:30pm onwards. I had a chat with the leaders of a bunch of tech groups in Perth this week - the Ruby community, Port 80, and others were present; discussing having joint meetings - with break out rooms for groups to move off into - at SpaceCubed, 45 St Georges Tce (the old Reserve Bank vault!). We've dropped *Perth.pm* meetings to quarterly due to lack of participation (I've tried monthly, and only 3 people were turning up), so perhaps merging with other group's meetings may work? What's your opinion? Also - how many people here came along to Paul Fenwick's talk at PLUG at the beginning of the month? Just curious... Disclosure: I am PLUG president (/a la signature/) James PS: PLUG does have a tech presentation every month on the 2nd Tuesday of the Month, /often/ held at City West Lotteries House, 2 Delhi St, West Perth. Free to attend (normally). PLUG membership, if you want to support PLUG, is $20/year ($10/year concession). PPS: Running PLUG and Perth.pm is purely voluntary (indeed, it normally ends up /costing/ me money) [1] Perth Linux Users Group, http://www.plug.org.au/ -- /Mobile:/ +61 422 166 708, /Email:/ james_AT_rcpt.to PLUG President 2012: http://www.plug.org.au -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Last week I attended a meeting of the people in charge of a number of Perth "tech groups", such as Port 80 (Australian Web Industry Association/AWIA), Perth Ruby Developers, UX Programmers, etc. These groups have been struggling (as Perth.pm has), and are considering holding joint events at a central location, with break-out rooms for Special Interest Groups (SIGs, being each of the groups) to move into for their own meetings. Venue space has been donated by SpaceCubbed, a startup that has taken over the old Reserve Bank vault (!) at 45 St Georges Tce (the little Amcom building, over the road from the Amcom tower!). Is on the ground floor, walk through reception, past the lifts towards the rear of the building. Much of the event will be a social networking and chatting, a small section of notices, and then "free play", in effect. The first "cross-tech-group meetup meeting" is scheduled for next week - Wednesday 6th June starting at 5:45pm. I have put this in the calendar for Perth.pm (and for http://plug.org.au/). There's no charges, just come and hang out and meet more tech people from the developer community across Perth. I don't know where this will go; it may replace our current schedule of quarterly meetings. So, all welcome, see you possibly on Wednesday evening!
