From aj at ohess.org Fri Feb 6 17:29:34 2015 From: aj at ohess.org (Anthony Johnson) Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2015 17:29:34 -0800 Subject: [Pdx-pm] February Meeting - Documenting Perl and Alternatives to POD Message-ID: <49949976-BAA2-496F-AC50-AA5040703CC6@ohess.org> Hey all! It?s that time again! We?ll be meeting next week, Feb 12th. It seemed support for a downtown meetup was relatively high, if there is no objection, we?ll just host at the same venue as last month (PIE on NW 12th and Davis). Definitely send your feedback my way if you have any, we don?t want to exclude anyone. So it?s not that we don?t like POD, but... Stefan and I will be discussing some new alternatives to POD that we?ve both been working on. Stefan has been working on parsing Markdown[1] formatted documentation out of Perl source. I?ve been working on an extension to the Sphinx documentation engine[2] to support writing rST[3] formatted documentation in Perl source. Both attempts are in their infancy, so we?ll be looking for feedback and suggestions. If anyone else would like to join in, or if someone wants to defend lowly ol? POD, you?re welcome to join in as well. More info: http://calagator.org/events/1250467805 See you all then, Anthony [1]: http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax [2]: http://sphinx-doc.org [3]: http://docutils.sourceforge.net/rst.html -- Anthony Johnson aj at ohess.org @agjhnsn From ingy at ingy.net Fri Feb 6 18:06:53 2015 From: ingy at ingy.net (Ingy dot Net) Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2015 18:06:53 -0800 Subject: [Pdx-pm] February Meeting - Documenting Perl and Alternatives to POD In-Reply-To: <49949976-BAA2-496F-AC50-AA5040703CC6@ohess.org> References: <49949976-BAA2-496F-AC50-AA5040703CC6@ohess.org> Message-ID: Please have a look at Swim: https://metacpan.org/pod/Swim I have converted the Pod of all my more important CPAN dists (80+) to it. (Swim in the GitHub repo becomes Pod on CPAN). I also use it to doc my Bash projects like: - https://github.com/ingydotnet/git-hub#readme - https://github.com/ingydotnet/git-subrepo#readme - https://github.com/ingydotnet/test-more-bash#readme - https://github.com/ingydotnet/json-bash/#readme It is meant to be a superset of Pod and Markdown and others, while having a syntax nicer than all of them. It generates perfect Pod (which is a wonderful markup (if you don't have to write it by hand)). Perhaps only one way to save time? Looks like 12hrs of driving time each way, which we could split into two days. Maybe the 1.5hr flight is more reasonable... but sounds like less fun.
