[Pdx-pm] dyld error with DBD::mysql

Greetings,
This driver is apparently looking for a symbol in a library file that either doesn't exist or is in an unexpected location. ... or something else.

The solutions suggested on the web at various formats don't seem to solve the problem: I get the same error regardless of which MySQL (32 or 64 bit) I install (as a package .dmg file on OS X 10.6.2)

Have any of you seen this and figured out a workaround?
dyld: lazy symbol binding failed: Symbol not found: _mysql_init
  Referenced from: /Library/Perl/5.10.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level/auto/DBD/mysql/mysql.bundle
  Expected in: flat namespace

Trace/BPT trap

thanks,
