I think that we need to start organising meetings pretty soon. However, I'm in Frances for the next two weeks... However, I think a meeting sometime around the 19th of December (Sunday) Might be an idea if not everyone is on holiday etc. Also, would people like me to set up a Perl UK jobs 'center' on the OXPM website? I've had many job offers that I can't accept, and everybodyt asks me if I know anyone instead. (For this reason, if you're looking for a job, look at the bottom of this page). And finally, the topic for this week, to breathe some life into this list, is, the best way of encrypting a paragraph with a seven digit number. True. But, it could use compilcated arithmatic to generate the decryption method, making it take some time. Anyway, that's the challenge... As a note to everyone, post to oxford-pm-list@happyfunball.pm.org rather than me, or only I get it, and the list stays very quiet.... - Peter Sergeant cryptography_is_for_paranoids_only@oxford.pm.org ----Original Message Follows---- From: Michael Mason To: Peter Sergeant Subject: Re: Fwd: NICK BUTT Date: Fri, 03 Dec 1999 11:25:19 +0000 MIME-Version: 1.0 From mgm at decisionsoft.com Fri Dec 3 07:37:50 1999 From: mgm at decisionsoft.com (Michael Mason) Date: Thu Aug 5 00:08:42 2004 Subject: Fwd: NICK BUTT References: <19991203132434.89781.qmail@hotmail.com> Message-ID: <3847C7AE.3F97C131@decisionsoft.com> Peter Sergeant wrote: > > Hmmm. I know this is a religious one, but how about having reply-to set on list messages? I replied and hadn't realised it went to you rather than the list. My fault too, but I like reply-to's. But maybe that's the challenge. A prize of a pint at our next meeting (I'm thinking in terms of a pub here) for the winner, judged by me? It might also beinteresting to follow up on a simple encryption method I devised when I was ten: Each letter that you use has ten different numbers. One of these is picked randomly each time you want to write a letter. However, this could be improved by each letter having a number of 'keys' equal to its use in normal english prose. And the 7 or eight or whatever digit password is used to generate these numbers, and then to make a decoding key at the other end. That would be a good idea. Then people will begin to see how many really cool Perl jobs are out there, and spend more effort honing their skills :-) If you do, the guys I work for are still looking for people to fill a very cool post ... ------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send an email to majordomo@hfb.pm.org, with the following in the body: unsubscribe oxford-pm-list From sargie at hotmail.com Tue Dec 7 14:23:07 1999 From: sargie at hotmail.com (Peter Sergeant) Date: Thu Aug 5 00:08:42 2004 Subject: OxPM: Ideas Message-ID: <19991207202307.81332.qmail@hotmail.com> -------------------------------------- Oxford Perl Mongers, UK -------------------------------------- Post to: oxford-pm-list@hfb.pm.org Blame: scapegoat@oxford.pm.org Flame: someone else... I think I will, but it will have to wait - I am in Paris, with a very dodgy internet connection, and I have difficulty with using the French keyboards. Does anyone have any ideas for an existing job posting script, that I can butcher, or failing that, wants to offer a little help with the version that I may need to write? Also, I am spending a lot of time lost on the metro, just to add complications. Nobody has any ideas for a good place to meet?
