I know under the p5p mailing list, they've been discussing "safe signals", and that as currently implemented in Perl, signals are
inherently unsafe as they can interrupt things you'd not normally think would be interruptable, which can cause "interesting"
effects and crashes.  At least that's the understanding I had after skimming through that thread.
