How about online fora? Postings on http://www.perlmonks.org have
been the seeds for much of my growth as a programmer. It's a good
spot to post a program to get feedback, which is vital if you
want to improve.

Barring that: Oakland.pm is pretty beginner friendly. Hip hip
huzzah to George for that!
