Apprentice Position Wanted

Is this list an appropriate place to post a short notice seeking
Perl-related employment positions in NYC? Or is it simply a place for
employers and recruiters to post?

[Position wanted messages are welcome. -Simon, your humble moderator]

I'm not a programmer by profession; I work as a social worker in a hospital.
When I begin looking for a new position this summer, I'd like to be able to
advertise myself as having serious computer skills so that I can move into
something like a "medical information technology" direction.

I've been studying Perl quite seriously since the start of the year.
Originally I was looking at it from a CGI direction, but I've been studying
the language itself for several months. I recently wrote a Perl program to
translate data from one clinical information report to a different format.
I'm trying to persuade my bosses to implement it.

From experience, I know that I learn best in "on-the-job" situations. I
can only learn so much working on my computer at home. I'd like to look for
part-time work where I work side-by-side or collaborate virtually with more
experienced Perl programmers on real world programming tasks. I'd be
willing to devote evenings and weekends to that end. Ideally, I'd like to
connect with a programmer who has a contract job, needs an extra hand and
can help a Perl apprentice become a journeyman (and pay for performance).

As an indication of my seriousness in this, I've signed up to attend the
yapc conference in Pittsburgh next month.

Would this list be an appropriate place to post a "Position Wanted" listing?
Or would another list be better? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.
Thank you very much.
