Who: Hampton Roads Perl Mongers
What: mod_perl
When: December 16, 1999 @ 7:30PM
Where: Old Dominion University Library, Room 163 (4500 Hampton
Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia)

Last month's meeting (2nd ever) saw an increased turn out to hear Chris
Hicks give the low-down on using DBI. A new attendee offered to present
this month on mod_perl. Unfortunately, a sign up sheet wasn't passed
around so his identity is a mystery (don't laugh). I do remember him
saying he was the third person *ever* to use mod_perl, and that he has
just moved down from Northern VA--so if you are this person please get
in touch.

>From the README : "The Apache/Perl integration project brings together
the full power of the Perl programming language and the Apache HTTP
server. This is achieved by linking the Perl runtime library into the
server and providing an object oriented Perl interface to the server's C
language API. These pieces are seamlessly glued together by the
`mod_perl' server plugin, making it is possible to write Apache modules
entirely in Perl. In addition, the persistent interpreter embedded in
the server avoids the overhead of starting an external interpreter
program and the additional Perl start-up (compile) time. " more details

DIRECTIONS TO ODU LIBRARY

Old Dominion University is located in Norfolk, Virgina on Hampton
Boulevard between 43rd and Bolling Ave
http://maps.excite.com/address_results/?a=4500+hampton+boulevard&csz=norfolk%2C+va&cn=United+States

- Coming from the South on Hampton Boulevard take a left on 45th street.
On this corner there should be an 8 story building on your left called
the Batten Arts & Letters Building and a Burger King on your right.
- After passing Batten Arts & Letters you will see another building on
the left called the Gornto Teletechnet Building.
- The next building on your left is the University Library. Some people
say it looks like an elaborate prison...
- Park in Lot 20 (on the right), the Parking officials have been alerted
to the presence of Perl Mongers and have pledged not to issue tickets.
- Enter the library, you should be able to find Room 163 to your right.

Alas, no food/drink is allowed in the library--but food/drink are
available across the street at a good and inexpensive mexican
restaurant.
