Hey, everyone.

The NCSU chapter of Perl Mongers is starting up again and we'd like your
participation. Our first meeting will be September 5th at 7:30 (I'll
announce the location later). I'll talk for about ten minutes about what
I'd like to do this semester, and then Shawn Page will talk about how they
use Perl for WebAssign. After his presentation, he'll field questions for
a little bit, and then we'll adjourn. In all, I expect the meeting to take
between one and one and a half hours.

Starting with September 5th, we'll meet on the first Thursday of every
month at 7:30. Each time, we'll have a short discussion at the beginning,
then someone will give a presentation on some aspect of Perl. If you're
interested in presenting, let me know.

We've got a lot of ideas for making Perl Mongers a more interesting and
useful organization and to do that, we need your help. If you don't have
time to do more than come to the meetings, that's fine. If you do have
some time you'd like to donate, we could use your support with:

Treasury - We plan to sponsor several one-day Perl courses, and we need
someone to take care of the money aspects.

Meetings - Right now, I'm organizing all of the meetings. If you've got
some great ideas for meetings, or if you'd like to line up speakers, I'd
appreciate the help.

Publicity - This consists mainly of designing and copying flyers for
meetings, events, and classes. The CSC Department will fund the copying,
but we need someone to be in charge of it all.

Web Site - Dave Lawrence has done a great job setting up the NCSU Perl
Monger's website (http://ncsu.pm.org), but he isn't in charge of updating
content, and I'd like someone to take that responsibility.

Conference - We'd like to sponsor a day or half-day Perl conference near
the end of the year, but we need a dedicated person to take charge of this
so that it'll happen this semester.

If you're interested in helping out with any of these, let me know at
wgemigh at unity.ncsu.edu or talk to me before or after the meeting on
September 5th.

Hope to see you all then!
