[mplspm]: replacements for Shell commands

I vaugely remember once apon a time that Tom Christiansen
was talking about starting a project ment to replace most
common *Nix commands with Perl versions of themselves. Does
anyone from this group know if that project ever got off
the ground and if so what it was called or where to find
it?
