[mplspm]: Wearable Computing

Has anyone here used perl/tk/linux in a wearable computing solution?  I'm interested in seeing a wearable computing demo.  I'd like to start a personal project to build a wearable, but it looks like a decent head-mounted disply (HUD) is about $2500.
