That's bizarre.  LMK if you can cut it down to a test case or even some wad of
code you can tarball up and attach to an issue.

Meanwhile, I suspect that fixing the $@ pollution in PPI is an underlying
problem, if you'd like to help out.  It's a pretty rote thing.
