Hi Sam, From my point of view I am too busy with OSDC to do something else, so sort of let this slip by, however I think it is worth pursuing, maybe not for next year, but after that. I think maybe we could arrange the OSDC group (PHP, Perl, Python and others) to do a mini conference - thus giving enough talks together to justify the mini- conf and helping reduce the load. This allows us also to cross promote Linux Conf and OSDC with each other - this is of course an out there idea, and not one I want to rush into. But I just wanted to tell you so that you know your efforts have not been ignored, the ideas are good. Thanks Scott -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... So far as I know, changing the ownership of a symbolic link, rather than what it points to, is a relatively unportable idiom... Anyway, the system call you want is 'lchown', which does not follow symbolic links. I don't know of anything that exports it by default, but you should be able to call it with the syscall interface or find a suitable module. > Alfie John wrote: >> sorry... forgot you wanted the actual symlink: >> >> my $filename = readlink $symlink; >> chown $uid, $gid, $filename; >> >> Alfie >> >> On 23/09/2005, at 9:50 PM, Alfie John wrote: >> >>> how about using Perl's chown function? >>> >>> perldoc -f chown >>> >>> Alfie >>> >>> On 23/09/2005, at 8:03 PM, David Dick wrote: >>> >>> >>>> Can anyone figure out how to do chown a symlink in perl?
