Here is where the instructions are: http://groups.pm.org/faq#how_do_i_request_a_new_group_or_to_reactivate_a_group_that_has_been_inactive Hmm, looks like the name you'd choose of "Portland.pm" is taken (Portland, Oregon), as far as subdomains go [1], although that group usually refers to themselves as "PDX.pm." Guess you'll have to sort that out with the pm.org folks. :-/ PDX.pm might be willing to forfeit that 'portland' subdomain. Location: Demand Media, 1299 Ocean, 5th floor, santa monica, ca Parking: Park in one of the SM Public Lots on 2nd -- #4 and #2 are closest to the building. I can provide parking vouchers for those buildings. ( Metered parking on Ocean is also an option, might be in the free evening zone by then?). I DO NOT have vouchers for the underground lot at 1299. Elevators: I may have to ferry people up the elevators, if so I'll be in the lobby from 6:45-7. I'll also leave notice with the security guard so they can follow whatever building-level security protocol they have. Food & BEvERages: Pizza is ordered. Soda fridge is scheduled to be freshly restocked and the beers should be on ice. I spent 25 minutes hunting for a parking spot, alternately searching for a street spot that might be open (and confused by all the signage) vs looking at lot #2's line that extended 3 cars into the street. Gave up at 7pm. Drove 30 minutes back to my hotel. Life is too short to come to an LA.pm event where easy parking isn't provided. I won't be even attempting that again, ever. Next month you can park outside of my place on 26th street, I'll loan you a visitor parking pass, and we can take the Santa Monica blue bus to the event. The People's Republic of Santa Monica provides many benefits but not free parking. Jordan Sent from my iPhone on a barstool in San Jose. I'm coming from the San Fernando valley anyway, so it's just a matter of getting off the freeway a couple of exits earlier than I would otherwise. BTW: I found parking without too much fuss in lot 4 on 2nd street when I arrived in Santa Monica, around 6:30pm. Andrew validated those of us who parked in the Santa Monica public lots. I found the accommodations pleasant. If there's anyone who wants to pool from the Valley, let me know as well. There's ample parking around my house.
