He said Monday (13th) was open, but only that date. I communicated this back to Juan. Personally, I think that's very little time to promote the event and it's a big event, so anything we can do to allow more people to attend is a good thing I think. Also on Monday is the other perl talk. I asked if we could talk to Nimish and his contacts at Rent.com in case they have Thursday available. That would give us a week and a day to push the event. That seems better overall for the talk since hopefully more people can attend. -Pablo On Tuesday 07 August 2007 12:06:31 pm Alyson Taylor wrote: > Still working on it...I'm waiting for a response from our Facilities > Director..I'll bug him again today.. > > -----Original Message----- > From: losangeles-pm-admins-bounces+alyson.taylor=ticketmaster.com at pm.org > [mailto:losangeles-pm-admins-bounces+alyson.taylor=ticketmaster.com at pm.o > rg] On Behalf Of Pablo Velasquez > Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2007 10:46 AM > To: losangeles-pm-admins at pm.org > Subject: Re: [Losangeles-pm-admins] Randal Schwartz offered to speak > withinthenext 2 weeks! > > Hi, > Has a date been set for his talk? Alyson, I just tried calling you. Sorry to jump in here. I think this is one of the benefits of being a group, we can all pitch in and help :-) I called Will Coker and just asked for a status update and confirmed that's the person you're working with. > > -----Original Message----- > From: > losangeles-pm-admins-bounces+alyson.taylor=ticketmaster.com at pm.org > [mailto:losangeles-pm-admins-bounces+alyson.taylor=ticketmaster.com at pm > .o > rg] On Behalf Of Pablo Velasquez > Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2007 10:46 AM > To: losangeles-pm-admins at pm.org > Subject: Re: [Losangeles-pm-admins] Randal Schwartz offered to speak > withinthenext 2 weeks! > > Hi, > Has a date been set for his talk? What: Randal Schwartz will present an Introduction to Rose::DB::Object When: Thursday 16th of August, 2007 Where: Rent.com 2425 Olympic Blvd, Suite 400E Santa Monica, CA LA.pm is very glad to welcome back renowned Perl author Randal Schwartz, for his Introductory talk about the ORM framework Rose::DB::Object. The meeting will be held at the Rent.com offices in Santa Monica on Thursday the 16th of August from 7:00-9:00pm. Randal L. Schwartz is a two-decade veteran of the software industry -- skilled in software design, system administration, security, technical writing, and training. He has coauthored the "must-have" standards: Programming Perl, Learning Perl, Learning Perl for Win32 Systems, and Effective Perl Programming, as well as writing regular columns for WebTechniques, PerformanceComputing, SysAdmin, and Linux magazines. He's also a frequent contributor to the Perl newsgroups and the "Perl Monastery" community (perlmonks.org), and has moderated comp.lang.perl.announce since its inception. His offbeat humor and technical mastery have reached legendary proportions worldwide (but he probably started some of those legends himself). Randal's desire to give back to the Perl community inspired him to help create and provide initial funding for The Perl Institute. He is also a founding board member of the Perl Mongers (perl.org), the worldwide Perl grassroots advocacy organization. Since 1985, Randal has owned and operated Stonehenge Consulting Services, Inc. You can find out more about Randal at: http://www.stonehenge.com/merlyn/ Rose::DB::Object is an extensible, high performance RDBMS-OO mapper, an alternative to other frameworks such as DBIx::Class and Class::DBI. Judging by the Q&A afterwards It really engaged those attending the meeting. Randal was the main reason there was such great attendance, we counted over 40 people!, including fellow mongers from OC.pm and ThousandOaks.pm. We also want to thank last night's host Rent.com, including Alain and Matt and the rest of the very helpful crew at rent.com. Moving forward, we have been doing our best to find speakers for future technicals meetings, we have made contact with various people but we still need all the help we can get, if you have command of a particular topic and would like to give a presentation about it, please let us now and we can schedule something! On the other hand, if there are any topics that you want to see discussed at one of our meetings please say so and we will make it happen! One of the ideas tossed around that was also brought up last night was to do a meeting with lighting talks, short 5 - 10 minutes presentations demonstrating something cool. For more information about what it takes do to lighting talks, please visit this link: http://www.perl.com/pub/a/2004/07/30/lightningtalk.html . Let us know what you think of this idea. Also, sorry guys I couldn't come earlier as promised. We're having a critical release today and were running into last minute pre-deployment issues - hate those big time. Great work guys!!
