[Kc] Speaking of YAPC...

I hung out with Larry Wall and some of the TPF folks this weekend while at
the Pittsburgh Perl Workshop (PPW) and it was announced by Dan Wright (PPW
organizer and TPF Treasurer) that YAPC::NA 2016 is either going to be in
Detroit or Orlando. There's also a chance it will be taking back The Perl
Conference name from O'Reilly as OSCON no longer has language tracks and
Larry no longer attends.

As for Kit's question in the other thread about YAPC::NA: Yes, it roams and
yes KC.pm could host it in 2017 or in the future. However, I understand it
takes a great deal of commitment to organize. The TPF will give you lots of
help, but someone still has to take the time to work with the venue to get
setup, work with catering, get T-Shirts designed, make sure there's good
wifi and power available for attendees, make sure speakers are invited and
talks selected, and a couple dozen other bits and pieces. I listened to
Robert Blackwell, who has helped organized a couple YAPC's in the past,
talking to the person who may be organizing YAPC if it goes to Detroit.
Robert's opinion was that you need the blessing and support of your
employer since it will take about 300-400 hours of effort to organize.

I have considered arranging one in Manhattan, Kansas because I think
K-State would be a great venue, but Manhattan Regional Airport is the choke
point. I just don't think it could handle the 200-500 extra visitors over a
5 day period. Though, I'm thinking of talking to the Chamber of Commerce to
see if that's really the case because I think it might be fun to host once.

Cheers.
