Hi John - Thanks for delurking! 51st and Main is supposed to be a pretty easy to find spot in KCMO, but you're not the first one to say that it's not in your everyday travelling path. I'm sorry if my directions contributed to your frustration. We've gone around and around on the meeting spot, and maybe it's time to revisit that topic. Perhaps the membership has changed a bit, and perhaps Planet Sub isn't that great now that they don't serve beer, Main street is different (closed or "rerouted") now through the plaza, so it's not that easy to find from the North. Do you have a good suggestion for some place more near Overland Park? How about the Barley's at Midland and 435? (that's sort of like 75th and 435 to us Missourians.) They have free wifi, a meeting room with a projector screen that they'll let us use, beer on tap, underage folks are allowed in, and they have pretty good food, though it may be a bit more expensive than Planet Sub. If we were to have one meeting there in January or the spring, would any of you be more or less likely to attend? -Andy From emmanuel.mejias at gmail.com Wed Dec 12 14:18:45 2007 From: emmanuel.mejias at gmail.com (Emmanuel Mejias) Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2007 16:18:45 -0600 Subject: [Kc] December Meeting In-Reply-To: <20071212221511.GA13349@mooresystems.com> References: <99dd19c90712071316s656c07deq3d6430c833405604@mail.gmail.com> <20071212160415.GA11162@mooresystems.com> <934f64a20712121317h5f35fad7l7776bb8e8b945b25@mail.gmail.com> <934f64a20712121318m1f0dbbe3u71f792693a46f705@mail.gmail.com> <7236b0a60712121333n30751e10w968c1144b0b70037@mail.gmail.com> <20071212221511.GA13349@mooresystems.com> Message-ID: <38feac7e0712121418p64b9e730va632cb6dd8e8e86c@mail.gmail.com> On Dec 12, 2007 4:15 PM, Andrew Moore wrote: > > On Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 03:33:52PM -0600, John Reinke wrote: > > Is the location a central location for people who would normally attend? > I'd > > prefer something closer to Overland Park if there are more potential > > attendees this direction. > > > Hi John - Thanks for delurking! > > 51st and Main is supposed to be a pretty easy to find spot in KCMO, > but you're not the first one to say that it's not in your everyday > travelling path. I work in Mission, KS which is about 15 minutes west of the current meeting location. So this location isn't to far for me. Even if we move it to Barley's as Andy has suggested still wouldn't be to far of a drive. I am for either location. That's: Barley's Brewhaus 16649 Midland Drive Shawnee, KS 66217 http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=Barley's+Brewhaus,+shawnee,+ks&ie=UTF8&ll=39.010247,-94.769611&spn=0.109911,0.213203&z=13&iwloc=A&om=1 (Please note, this is NOT the Barley's at 119 and Quivera.) If you're coming from midtown, near the old meeting spot, take 75th street and head west. It will eventually turn into Midland and curve around a little bit. Barley's is in the shopping center on the Southeast corner of Midland and Renner. Renner is about 100 yards east of I-435. If you're coming from just about any other part of town, get on 435 toward the west side of town. Take the Midland exit and head about 100 yards East on Midland to Renner. We'll discuss the new location and try to decide if we should keep it there, or do something else. Since perl 5.10 is most likely due to be released today (http://www.xray.mpe.mpg.de/mailing-lists/perl5-porters/2007-12/msg00385.html), I'd be interested in hearing about some of the new features in 5.10. If no one volunteers in advance to describe some of them to the gang, I'll look into some of the new features and be able to describe a few of them. I'll by no means be an expert by then, so if you've used any of the new features, please help me out a bit. Other possible topics to discuss may include: * David Nicol's proposal for Vienna.pm's Management System for TODO Test Bounties: http://socialtext.useperl.at/woc/index.cgi?management_system_for_todo_test_bounties * Your recent, interesting project * your questions or comments about perl If you've never been to a KC Perl Mongers meeting, this would be a great time to come.
