Is everyone tired of technical meetings? Should we have a social meeting this time? If you want a social meeting, suggest some locations. I'll also renew my offer to sponsor it. I have a few suggestions on activities, if there is any interest I'd be happy to call around and see who can accommodate us and suggest actual locations. Forgive me for twisting these into Perl-isms, I couldn't resist... *Perl Golf* - Mini golf while reminiscing about those times where your co workers thought production was a good place for Perl golf. Be it intentional or not (Shudders!) *N Queens* - Perl Mongers Chess Tournament that inspires some discussions regarding using AI to solve problems (Checkmate!) *Show me a Sine* - Billiards, protractors optional. Discussions on how to simulate physics in perl for games and profit (Scratch!) *use Stinky::Shoes* - Bowling, along with discussing the finer points of frameworks and what can happen if they are used wrong and you end up in the gutter (Strike!) *chomp* - The standard evening of dinner at that British place whose name is escaping me (Boar's Head? We have a reservation under "Wade" at the Red Lion Pub (http://www.redlionhouston.com/) starting at 7pm, this Thursday (Nov. 12). There's still some construction on Shepherd, south of their location, but it's not too bad. Come for food and conversation. I look forward to seeing you there. G. Wade PS. If you plan on coming, I would appreciate an RSVP. If they have a good idea how many of us are coming, they can block off an area for us. These picks are books, other podcasts, blogs, life habits, apps, methods, really anything that the hosts have found useful or learned something from. How would folks feel about everyone bringing 3-ish picks and being prepared to talk for a few minutes about why they like these resources? Could be a great chance to discover resources that you may have previously missed and a fun way to get us all chatting. Best Regards, Robert Stone On Sun, Nov 22, 2015 at 8:52 PM, G. Robert's idea for picks is an interesting one. It would still be helpful to get a count of people who want to speak up. If you are interested, ping me. This is also a good opportunity for anyone who feels that they don't know enough to do a presentation. * a module people might be interested in * a language people might find interesting * a book * a website * a podcast * a TV show * a piece of hardware * a gadget * a program that makes your life easier * others?
