Unfortunately, our scheduled speaker had to cancel, so I'm looking for alternatives. A few of us had talked about a presentation on creating Perl modules and tools that help with the process. If no one volunteers with a topic in the next couple of days, that's what we'll probably go with. Any volunteers? G. Wade -- Perl isn't really about safety. It's about getting where you're going, and enjoying the trip. It's more important to be a good driver than to have seven feet of sponge rubber all around your car. -- Larry Wall From andy at petdance.com Tue Jan 2 19:40:15 2007 From: andy at petdance.com (Andy Lester) Date: Tue, 2 Jan 2007 21:40:15 -0600 Subject: [pm-h] Fwd: Houston YAPC References: <49d805d70701021934g3a9164fdjbb388e4f42701f1b@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <334BDEDD-B9FC-430A-A46B-65FCE2185134@petdance.com> Begin forwarded message: > From: "Joshua McAdams" > Date: January 2, 2007 9:34:59 PM CST > To: "Andy Lester" > Subject: Re: [pm-h] Houston YAPC > >> Hey, Pete or Josh, can you fix Houston's link as shown in this >> message? > > Late, but done :) > -- Andy Lester => andy at petdance.com => www.petdance.com => AIM:petdance From mikeflan at earthlink.net Wed Jan 3 04:44:44 2007 From: mikeflan at earthlink.net (Mike Flannigan) Date: Wed, 03 Jan 2007 06:44:44 -0600 Subject: [pm-h] Houston YAPC References: <457E11B5.5A8EAED5@earthlink.net> <4595B049.9BB43285@earthlink.net> <71abc2a40612300932p7762cccfj18fd3c6cc89f33dc@mail.gmail.com> <45973BD9.E9CD2571@earthlink.net> <71abc2a40701020704p26463f98y44fe9e3f593783d0@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <459BA53C.F7540649@earthlink.net> Thank you all (to the BCC people). We can almost certainly get a room with a fixed projector free of charge for our meeting. The biggest problem is parking. They have to jump through hoops to get us free parking, but it might be possible. Otherwise we have to pay the meters for parking. I have a feeling that we could just park and not worry about it for at least 1 meeting. She said they typically just make a note of the offender for the first week or so, then ticket. Another alternative is to park at Clear Lake High School across the road and walk about 1,000 ft to the Delta Building. I think that is what I would do. Campus map is here: http://prtl.uhcl.edu/portal/page?_pageid=328,217631,328_217645&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTALP I say we hold at least one meeting there - so I can make it to one of our meetings easily. If you agree, give me a date and I'll set up the details. Or I'll give you the contact name and number. Mike "G. We will meeting at 1111 Fannin, once again, in the basement. Someone will be on hand in the lobby to let people in until about 6:15. I will be presenting on the basics of building a Perl module. If you have any ideas for a (simple) module we can put together on Tuesday, email your idea to me or the list. Otherwise, I may pick something ridiculous or boring on Tuesday. See you there. G. We are pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the YAPC Europe 2007 in Vienna, Austria, 29th to 31st August 2007: http://vienna.yapceurope.org/ye2007/cfp.html The theme for this year's conference is "Social Perl", which we hope will inspire submissions for this and related topics. If Perl has helped you or your company to get people together, or if you can report how Perl is "social" to other programming languages, or how Perl may profit from inspirations from other languages, we'd like to hear about it. Although this is our main topic for the conference, it will not be the only one, and as such we will also be accepting talks on just about any theme. Types of talks include 20 or 40 minutes talks, 60-90 minute tutorials, or 3 hour Hack-a-thons, BOFs or Workshops. Please submit talk proposals via the conference web site until Sunday, 27th May 2007. A Call for Participation will follow in a few weeks.
