Message-ID: <1490446511.1157589179494.JavaMail.root@fepweb13> The Great Lakes Software Excellence Conference (GLSEC) October 25-26th at the Prince Conference Center in Grand Rapids GLSEC is a conference put on my real practitioners who actually do development. It is organized the XP West Michigan and the American Society for Quality. The conference is non-profit and staffed by volunteers. Because of that, you can get a two-day conference for $300 - and you can tell your boss that because it's local, there is no airfare or hotel to reimburse. (And we provide the lunch.) Read about it here - http://www.glsec.org/ The entire conference program is available on the "program" page, and the one-page brochure is here: http://glsec.org/files/glsec_flyer.pdf On-line credit card registration is up now, and you can even pay by paypal. Early bird pricing ends Sept 15th. See you there? Regards, Matthew Heusser Note: This is not spam. In 2003 we tried to bring YAPC to Grand Rapids, and we just didn't have the volunteer support. Three years later, someone is finally doing it, and a couple of the founding GR.PM-ers are involved. (Tessa and myself) I thought you would like to know. It's going to be a great conference; I stake my reputation on it. Jeff will talk about 3vil with subroutines, AUTOLOAD, and references in perl. Scott will talk about how to hide the 3vil with Module::Compile. While this is fairly advanced material, they will try to make it accessible to mere mortals. It is critical that everybody identify weaknesses in Jeff's code during his presentation ;) I would also like to talk briefly about events for next year. Speakers, workshops, etc.. Bring your ideas. I recognized a few things I've done recently that are just habit. Just think, most people using perl are still writing perl 4 today, when perl6 is supposedly going to be available this year! http://www.oreillynet.com/onlamp/blog/2006/08/please_stop_using_perl_3.html Also of interest, Larry Wall's "State of the Onion 10": http://www.perl.com/pub/a/2006/09/21/onion.html -Al From tobert at gmail.com Tue Sep 26 11:56:12 2006 From: tobert at gmail.com (Al Tobey) Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2006 14:56:12 -0400 Subject: [grand-rapids-pm-list] Fwd: Job opportunity In-Reply-To: <61dd97c0609261142n1b8aa070o124551241ea80219@mail.gmail.com> References: <61dd97c0609261142n1b8aa070o124551241ea80219@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <5ac7acb10609261156v449afc84m482f79dbd80e576c@mail.gmail.com> Judy asked nicely and we agreed that they can have their messages forwarded to GR.pm if they do so.
