To post to the announcements list (reserved for important stuff), just send an email message to "grand-rapids-pm-list@hfb.pm.org" ("happyfunball" may be substituted for "hfb"). To post to the general discussion list (where anything goes), just send email to "grand-rapids-pm-announce@hfb.pm.org" (again, "happyfunball" may be substituted for "hfb"). +Joel __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I am recruiting a Manager for our Network Operations Center (NOC) and am wondering if you or if anyone you know might be interested? I am with One Protocol in Grand Rapids, MI (Formerly Global DSL Communications). We are a DSL service provider and are growing VERY rapidly. We also provide related general support services such as web hosting, web site development, email, etc. More information regarding products and services is at www.globalDSL.com. We have offices in Grand Rapids, Detroit, Lansing, Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. (The position is in Grand Rapids) We will soon become multi-state. We need some sharp help that is as ambitious as our growth plan! Basic duties for the manager will be traffic management, routing, customer support, consulting with new accounts on tech needs and supervision of Network Administrators. Windows NT, Unix, Linux and/or Solaris experience would be great. This position reports directly to the President, so the NOC Manger will have a VERY high degree of visibility, responsibility and opportunity. Salary is very flexible for a couple of reasons. We're still developing the position around the right individual, so it will depend on whom we hire, what their skill set is and what their final responsibility ends up being. We are also able to offer some stock options that may enter the formula for candidates interested in being invested. Be assured we'll pay what it'll take to get the right person. This is just a general idea of what I'm working on; it won't answer all your questions. And frankly we don't have all the answers- as I stated we are still shaping the position and hope the candidates will have some input! So please don't be overly literal on the above information; we are open to thoughts and ideas. I talk and listen better then I type and read so please give me a call if you have any ideas or questions. Given our growth strategy, I'm also anticipating other openings in our Tech Dept, so please pass this message on to others. (PLEASE no HEADHUNTERS or other third parties and given the nature of the position, contracted employment or consultants are not an option). Your help in getting the network ball rolling is greatly appreciated. I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks. One Protocol has already paid ALL my fees. I am not a headhunter and I RECEIVE ABSOLUTELY NO COMMISSION OR FINDER'S FEE. Message-ID: <200009251847.OAA21432@happyfunball.pm.org> This brings up an idea: Could we charge a per-position fee for advertisments on gr-pm-announce? Or perhaps a placement fee? Something like $5 per ad or 0.2% of salary (for placements) would both lower the number of spams, and increase our coffers. Perhaps someone could write a perl script to track our placement % and put it up on the web site ... But now _i'm_ the recruiter. Somehow, I don't like that ... Matt H. There's no GR.pm meeting tomorrow on account of no presentation. We asked around a little, but no one's prepared to present on a topic. As many of us saw last month, presentation topics don't have to be anything especially fancy. Paul Tjapkes took a relatively ordinary topic (i.e.- variable scope rules in Perl) and turned it into an engaging presentation that I think everyone learned something from. So if there's any facet of Perl (a module, an aspect of the language, whatever) you'd be willing to talk about, I'm sure the group would love to hear it. That said, there's no reason GR.pm'ers can't have a social get-together tomorrow at lunch. However, I know that I and few others in the group won't be able to make it because of another event that's happening tomorrow. If it'll help, I'll pick a venue: Bill's Family Restaurant on Michigan near Fuller. (OK, that was really a joke.) Seriously, I urge anyone who's interested in a social get-together to chat about it on the grand-rapids-pm-list@hfb.pm.org list. +Joel ===== only the fool would take trouble to verify that his sentence was composed of ten a's, three b's, four c's, four d's, forty-six e's, sixteen f's, four g's, thirteen h's, fifteen i's, two k's, nine l's, four m's, twenty-five n's, twenty-four o's, five p's, sixteen r's, forty-one s's, thirty-seven t's, ten u's, eight v's, eight w's, four x's, eleven y's, twenty-seven commas, twenty-three apostrophes, seven hyphens and, last but not least, a single ! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
