I think his latest YAPC::Europe talk was "A Month of Getopt: 31 Modules in 20 Minutes". I'd certainly be up for hearing that if Aaron was up for it. I don't recall anyone else that night fessing up to an inclination to deliver a perl chat. Anyone else want to share some knowledge? If we're short of conversation, there's always the sport to watch. Just to entertain you, I dug this out. http://noodlefactory.co.uk/~nick/cgi-bin/tourette.pl?http://www.bbc.co.uk/ Unfortunately the BBC broke it by using some crack-fueled javascript URL rewriting. Looks like some sort of browser compatibility hack? Anyway, it works if you disable javascript. The Reg works (reasonably) nicely, tho: http://noodlefactory.co.uk/~nick/cgi-bin/tourette.pl?http://www.theregister.co.uk/ N Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com From asmith9983 at gmail.com Wed Oct 11 11:00:11 2006 From: asmith9983 at gmail.com (Andrew Smith) Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2006 19:00:11 +0100 Subject: [Edinburgh-pm] Talks Message-ID: <452D312B.6000606@gmail.com> Hi I'm in the process of putting some training together on ViM essentials, trying to provide a few tips on getting up the learning curve, and why its worth doing so, To get to the powerful features that make Vim the editor of choice, and gvim if you have no choice but to use windows. I could also do one on Bash and Bash scripting. After Bash I could also do my one on Linux utilities. e.g Why you should learn what they do, and how you can with a script tie together a set of programs with specific tasks, but flexible with command line options. All of things sit alongside Perl, so should interest everyone. I have a projector iBook, and screen which I can bring along. We could probably arrange to sit out of the way of other customers at the rear of the Guildford Arms, although they would be welcome to sit in. I'd also bring along copies of my training booklets. Its a combination of original work, useful web and man pages, with laminated covers. The following week is the Black Swan in Leith. The runs always start at 6:30.
