I used to do a lot with Mason, which is [rather] nice, and pretty fast 
deveoplment once you get your head around it.  it scales /fairly/ well.

these days whenever i get some time to code something, i'll use pure mod_perl, 
xml/xslt, which works the best for me for the larger type of project.
