Developer - Position Description
Write applications and features for a large Human Resource Management
System (HRMS), utilizing Perl, MySQL, Apache, HTML, JavaScript (jQuery) and
CSS.
This position focuses on back-end development (75% back-end - Perl, MySQL /
24% front-end - HTML, JS, CSS).
- Terms of employment: Full Time (40 hour work week)
- Schedule: Monday - Friday
- Hours: Must be on site during core hours (10AM - 3PM)
- Reports to: Developer Team Lead
Key Responsibilities
-
Work on complex problems to create applications and features that are
used globally throughout the business.
-
Receive, analyze and implement users requests to develop new features
within our existing HRMS.

Work with Developer Team Leads and Architects to implement frameworks
producing localized business processes.

Understands and contributes to internally created development best
practices.
-
Utilize existing development frameworks to produce viable and working
solutions to customer requests within system abilities and limitations.

Establishes best estimates for development time lines and effectively
communicates changes.
-
Additional tasks as assigned.
Required Skills
-
Must have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field or
equivalent practical experience.

Must have at least two years experience of web development using Perl,
PHP, Java, Python, Ruby or other (Perl is preferred).

Must have at least two years experience creating websites using HTML /
CSS (Less.js) / JavaScript (jQuery).

Must have experience in database programming using a Relation DB
Management System (MySQL is preferred).

Must have strong problem determination skills.
-
Willingness to learn new systems and skills as needed from project to
project.

Must have a thorough understanding of software design, debugging and
troubleshooting methods.
-
Prior experience using code management software such as CVS, SVN or git.
-
Must be able to work in a team environment and independently.

Must be well organized.
Desired Skills
-
User level experience with a *NIX operating system.
-
Intermediate to advanced MySQL usage.
-
Experience using vi(m) command line editors.
-
Knowledge of common CPAN modules and ability to effectively research,
install and develop new solutions through the reuse of existing code
available in the open source community.

Knowledge and prior use of Perl testing frame works (Test::More,
Test::Simple, Test::Harness).
-
Prior use of perlcritic for static testing.
-
Experience with Apache and creating mod_perl modules.
-
*NIX system administration experience as it pertains to the LAMP stack
(installation, configuration and maintenance).
