grep lm < /proc/cpuinfo

A 64-bit processor will have lm ("long mode") in the flags section of cpuinfo.
A 32-bit processor will not.

most of desktop processors are 64-bit capable.
some of notebook, netbook and tablets are 64-bit capable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
are there pitfalls for Perl programming on a 64-bit system which would prevent the programs
from running on 32-bit system? i have been using 64-bit linux for programming because of the
large file sizes that i work with.( >10GB )
