I once had the good forture of taking an advanced Perl class from Tom 
Chrisianson himself. Most of it went right over my head, but it was still 
pretty cool. I remember him commenting that Perl is great for newbies. If 
you know C, you can write C-style programs in Perl. You can write Perl to 
look like Shell, Pascal, Java, BASIC, even COBOL. The trick eventually 
though, is to write Perl in Perl.

Now if I could just figure out how to do that... :)
