I'm really good at buying Ora books the week before a new edition is released. Thanks much. *************************************************** "The number you have dialed is imaginary. The cookbook took 3 years to write, so there won't be a revision anytime in 1999. The advanced one is a great book - explains closures and autoloaders and stuff. Get them from www.bookpool.com or www.fatbrain.com for good prices....there is also a website that will search the top 15 book stores online for the best price, but I forget where it is. If you people IRC, (http://www.mircx.com/ for win32 people and http://www.eleves.ens.fr:8080/home/espel/sirc/sirc.html for unix people), you can connect to an efnet server like irc.primenet.com and join the channel #perl !! Randal Shwartz, Michael Schwern, Mark-Jason Dominus, Chris Nandor, Sean Burke and Kevin Lenzo are just a few of the many people who regularly chat there. Chip Salzenberg and Tom Christiansen haven't been on for more than 5 months. =( They have real lives or something. Perhaps you're thinking of a mail responder which we run and mentioned over on the Central OH Linux UG list. See: http://bopper.wcbe.org/~COLUG/ or http://www.owlriver.com/ for COLUG, and the Owl River. ... just send an email with an ISBN in the SUBJECT line -- all by itself -- to: bookprice@owlriver.com and the answer will magically appear, with the help of some perl and the LWP perlmodules. ISBN's are ten decimal digits, or nine digits with an "X" tenth ... look up ISBN's at: http://www.owlriver.com/books.html [there is a jump to a searchbox at the top of the page], or pull it off the book. Be aware that some publishers will run several ISBN's for a single book, thru revisions. These routines have 'aged' and rotted' as some sites play games with their html returned ... I have on my 'to do' list, to update this, but haven't had the time to get to it yet. -- Russ Herrold ----------------------------------------------------------------------- To send mail to the Columbus.pm list send email to columbus-pm-list@happyfunball.pm.org To unsubscribe send an email to majordomo@hfb.pm.org with unsubscribe columbus-pm-list youremail@yourdomain.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From jalex+ at osu.edu Wed Oct 6 12:13:50 1999 From: jalex+ at osu.edu (Jason Alexander) Date: Thu Aug 5 00:00:22 2004 Subject: No subject Message-ID: <4.1.19991006130655.00a40580@pop.cis.ohio-state.edu> COLUG looks fun, I think I will add that to my calendar. After talking to him for a while, I told him that I thought the lab could be done in 10 lines of perl. He wasn't sure that he believed me, but said he'd like to see the code if it could be done. So here's the challenge: write a solution for CIS 222 Lab 1 at http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/~weide/sce/now/222/labs/lab01/index.html in as few lines of perl as possible. Send as many solutions as possible to the list. I'm working on a solution of my own, but I think I want to shoot for obfuscated code first and compact code second. :) Good luck! *************************************************** "The number you have dialed is imaginary. There was a large hardware failure and some configuration issues that had to be dealt with. I scheduled an OSU classroom for the next meeting. I would be very grateful if someone could provide a meeting room for the future meetings where the parking is free. OSU will not allow you to park for free anywhere on campus, at any time without a pass. Since the classrooms would allow presentations, I thought that would be the best choice. If anyone can schedule a room somewhere with a projection hookup (for computers), and free or real cheap parking, that would be extremely helpful. Right now, that is top on the list. As far as presentations go, two of us are working on seperate presentations, in case one doesn't work out, or one of us gets sick of perl by next week. I will be ready to talk about writing modules in perl - "why, how, what to do, and OO with them", and an undergraduate from OSU named Colin will be working on a presentation in perl-gtk. Bring all your perl questions that you haven't asked on the mailing list and we will stab at them. THe actual classroom is TBA, because I may change it. --Jason ----------------------------------------------------------------------- To send mail to the Columbus.pm list send email to columbus-pm-list@happyfunball.pm.org To unsubscribe send an email to majordomo@hfb.pm.org with unsubscribe columbus-pm-list youremail@yourdomain.com -----------------------------------------------------------------------
