On the side, I dabble in many many things. I keep restructuring http://www.jalex.net/ but decided to only cover linux and perl on it. I use perl quite a bit. I admit, I haven't done much with OOP and modules in perl, but otherwise I am fairly nifty. If I didn't spend so much time on #perl, a channel on IRC in the EFnet server ring, I would get more done. I am 25, but I look 18, just so you know if you run into me. Anybody interested in maintaining the columbus.pm website? I asked for free web services when I started everything up, so it would most likely be at http://columbus.pm.org/ Where is everyone located? I see a couple OSU addresses, so is it safe to say we can meet in the campus area. Let me know your preferences. From what I have gotten of other Perl Mongers, is that each group is different, so there is no set list of things this group is for, and what we can do. If we meet once or twice we may be able to find something unique that we should go with. I think dinner once in a while would be nice. And if anyone is planning on giving any perl presentations then it's an excellent use of the monger group to practice your talk on the group. etc etc blah blah I would like to golf and ski sometime if there is interest...haven't gone skiing, and golfing I just started last spring. --Jason At 12:25 PM 7/8/99 , Eric wrote: >Lexis-Nexis security needs a list of the projected attendees. If anyone wants to go still, I think you can still register (IT'S FREE last I heard) at the web page below. More Information is at http://www.dayton.pm/ I won't be going, due to time constraints but if anyone wants to go MJD is H-I-G-H-L-Y recommended. He is one of the brightest perl programmers around (a.k.a. genius) and he does some really wacky things with perl. I saw his talk at YAPC (Yet Another Perl Conference at CMU) just a couple weeks ago and he was quite impressive. You can see his webpage at http://www.plover.com/~mjd/ Take notice of his nifty 'email scheme' that changes frequently. Also, I will be sending some information in a little bit (today or tomorrow) that will help us figure out meeting places and times to meet. Most likely I will just put together a web form that will do all the work for me, so you just go click and be done. Hours ,if any, of the following days you are comfortable/free using to meet: [Example: Monday - 5:00 - 8:00pm] Monday - Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday - Friday - How often would you want to meet? (weekly, monthly, biweekly, .. ) Where would you like to meet? Location (i.e. OSU area): Atmosphere (i.e. restaurant): What kind of events would you be interested in? (i.e. talks, presentations, workshops, etc.) Other: You may send to the list by mailing to columbus-pm-list@hfb.pm.org - you will probably not receive a copy of what you sent because I think it filters out the sender from the recipient list. We have some job openings that I was hoping some of you would know of people who might be interested. We are primarily Unix based (Solaris, HP-UX, Linux) on our backend but everyone in the building generally has windows desktops. We do lots of web based development using Apache and Perl, create network management and internal interdepartmental communication tools, etc. We are primarily a quick response team developing whatever application necessary to allow our internal (some external) users to get their jobs done. It is pretty fun, this team isn't a traditional IS organization, in fact, we aren't part of IS but of Network Operations. We'll be looking for experience in Unix, PERL, web serving technologies (javascript, cgi, etc), and other higher level languages. If you (the mongers mailing list) know of anyone who might be interested, you can call me or send me their resume, we'll want to fill the positions quickly. Again, sorry for the bold nature of this message, but we want to fill these positions fast and any help would be appreciated! Columbus.pm will be rolling soon. We got our webpage on Saturday and should be reachable at http://columbus.pm.org/ eventually. It does have CGI access I think, AND access to logs. I thought that was kind of nice since it's free. After going through responses, (This?) Thursday at 6:30pm sounds good. Everyone seems comfortable with the Bethel area, so how about Coach's on Bethel Rd. I don't even know where Coach's is, but it sounds good - or Bumpers (haven't been there either). We will possibly have 8 attending, 11 at most. And of course, you can bring a friend. I will call to see what kind of pre-arrangements we have to make for the place. If thursdays are doable by most everyone, we can stick the schedule to the last thursday of every month. The agenda will almost entirely be just getting to know each other and trying to see what kind of group we will have. I am rather busy, but I have been trying to write things for the perl community for a while. I keep losing my code between machine changes, though, so who knows what I have written in the last year. My hope is that we can get some people interested in getting involved with writing modules or whatnot. If any of you do IRC point your IRC client to an EFNet server and join #perl. Send feedback on this date back to jalex+@osu.edu You can send to the list at columbus-pm-list@hfb.pm.org I think. --Jason From rblackburn at allwin.net Tue Jul 27 08:50:33 1999 From: rblackburn at allwin.net (Robert Blackburn) Date: Thu Aug 5 00:00:20 2004 Subject: first Monger meeting Message-ID: <013d01bed836$ffbf18e0$0e1b01c3@columbus.rr.com> Greetings: Looking forward to the first meeting... -Robert H.
