I am willing to schedule a virtual meeting in August if there is a topic and/or interest in meeting on the 19th. I'd love to hear what people think. -Jon Gentle From atrodo at atrodo.org Thu Aug 13 20:54:43 2020 From: atrodo at atrodo.org (Jon Gentle) Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2020 23:54:43 -0400 Subject: [Cincinnati-pm] August Virtual cinci.pm In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Good Evening, Since I didn't get any response about August, and because this month has gotten a bit busier for me personally, I've decided to not schedule August's virtual cinci.pm. I do plan on scheduling September's virtual cinci.pm, so if you'd like to talk about something then, please let me know. Thank you for your understanding. -Jon Gentle On Fri, Aug 7, 2020 at 9:53 AM Jon Gentle wrote: > > Good Morning, > > Since we are not yet able to meet in person, I have cancelled this > month's in-person meeting once again. I'd be happy to give a short (~30 min) presentation on tips for building user-friendly command-line interface applications, with an aside about Term::ANSIColor. This would be Perl 5, I'm afraid, as it's all I'm familiar with, currently. Do very many people /not/ use the Unix terminal on a daily basis with respect to Perl programming? That gives me an idea how much harder I need to try to get the Term::ANSIColor part of the demo to work cross-platform, since I'm pretty sure some other wrapper is needed for CMD.EXE on Windows, for example. I'm just not sure how beneficial the topic is for the cinci.pm group, since it's probably old hat for you guys. I could invite people from work, but we have fewer and fewer Perl adherents these days. But regardless, it's a topic. Hope you're all well. ?Kevin On 13.08.20 at 23:54, Jon Gentle wrote: > Good Evening, > > Since I didn't get any response about August, and because this month > has gotten a bit busier for me personally, I've decided to not > schedule August's virtual cinci.pm. The command line is one of Perl's most important and powerful abilities IMO. I use Cygwin on Windows (as everyone should) so I don't use Perl very much from the Command Prompt. In my experience that is an ActiveState specific subject. Thanks. I won't worry too much about how to make Command Prompt happy then. Except to mention: this will surprise exactly no one, but turns out there's a CPAN module[1] that will shim up Term::ANSIColor so it can be used with CMD.EXE [1]: https://metacpan.org/pod/Win32::Console::ANSI On 17.08.20 at 14:47, Chris Wagner wrote: > Hey Kevin, that's something I'ld be interested in.?
