[Chicago-talk] How did YAPC Meetup go?

Andy Bach,

Yes, it was good. I'm sure Josh has a better answer, but as a newbie,
my take on it was like this.

Josh went over plans for the final month and the YAPC event itself. He
showed us the budget is negative right now, but expected to turn
positive as more registrations come in. I was very pleasantly surprised
to see that a fun dinner (and auction) at Dave & Buster's is being
included in the already-bargain basement price of $100. Similar, though
much bigger, conferences run by professional outfits like DCI go for
$1495 to $2495 for 3-5 days.

Josh highlighted a couple of initiatives to improve revenue. One is to
continue to get the word out to user groups, universities, and community
colleges with posters and visits. The other is to hold a job fair at
the conference. The group got together a list of contacts and action
owners to invite various companies to participate.

He showed us a private Wiki for volunteers to accept tasks and
communicate status on publicity, job fair, and duty at the event. Very
cool. Please see Josh for details.
