[Chicago-talk] Stealth Perl Install and then the old swap-a-roo?

I did that on debian and I can't get my xwindows/kde to work and one of 
the hold-ups seems to be that kde wants 'perl' which is perl 5.6.1 libs 
and I've got 5.8.1 hand compiled and I can't get apt-get to get over it. 

Right now I can patch till I'm blue in the face, but the best I can do is 
get a 'failsafe' session going.  I don't know for certain that the perl 
install is the problem, but ....
